How It Works

Words Per Minute (WPM) measures typing speed using the standard word length of 5 characters:

WPM = (Characters Typed / 5) / Minutes Elapsed

Accuracy is calculated as the percentage of correctly typed characters:

Accuracy = (Correct Characters / Total Characters Typed) × 100

Typical Typing Speeds:

Beginner: 20–35 WPM
Average: 40–55 WPM
Proficient: 55–80 WPM
Expert: 80–120 WPM
Professional typist: 120+ WPM
